how to save a life.

one might never guess you would have to be stabbed with needles hmmm lets see... 4 times to volunteer at primary children's hospital but so is the case. i've been TB tested- twice!- drug tested- vaccinated- vaccine tittered- background checked- interviewed- referenced all in the name of volunteering. not to mention the six months of stuff we had to do to get thome certified and ready. we're done. whew that took a while. thursday was our first day at primary children's on our own. it was hard. harder than i excepted. we visited the surgical unit, medical unit and then the oncology unit. in the oncology unit we go and visit with all the kids that are receiving chemo- therapy. kids- small little innocent children. seeing them hooked up to big machines receiving treatment definitely makes you take a step back. it made me realize you never except to have a baby then watch them battle cancer 4 years later. it made me so grateful for my healthly happy family. the part that makes it worth it is watching their faces light up when they see thome. they absolutely love him- and he loves them right back. he doesn't care if they are sick, bald or have cancer he loves them all the same. its truly amazing to watch thome interact with the kids and help them forget where they are even just for a few minutes. yes its hard. harder than i thought. but its so so worth it. now we can't wait to go back next week.

You are doing a lot of good. From PLENTY of experience, I know its a hard place to be. But you really do more than you know - and until you've been on the receiving end - you REALLY see how much you're actually doing! Love you - thanks for being that person!

That is so cool you are doing that Whitney. Those sweet kids probably love seeing your cute dog and I think that's so neat that you are taking all that time to do that.

p.s. I might have already said this before, but I love how you do your blog with the blog posts all being titled a song! It's so creative!
